Last month, hundreds of Washingtonians descended on the Long View Gallery in Shaw to celebrate the 5th Annual Eat Drink Local presented by EdibleDC magazine and FRESHFARM, a nonprofit that producer-only farmers markets. The annual event gathers the regions best farmers, producers, chefs, artisans, wineries, breweries and distillers for a night of delicious bites and libations.

After more than two decades working as a professional pastry chef, Cheryl Strasser decided it was time to retire and slow down a bit.
Instead of hitting the brakes, Strasser hit the gas. She bought a five- by eight-foot food trailer, parked it in front of the Lucketts Store and sold biscuit sandwiches, coffee and pastries. She called it Cowbell Kitchen.

Before hitting the stores this holiday season, grab a quick bite at these new, fast-casual spots. One little corner of this tiny shop has an adorable yellow table, set with succulents and a porcelain gray-blue bird, one white chair, one salvaged bench, modern macrame curtains over the adjacent window and a gallery wall featuring prints of women at different ages and in different styles cobbled together. It looks like an Instagram post come to life.

Started in 2013 by Cheryl Strasser, a pastry chef for over 20 years, Cowbell Kitchen has evolved from a food truck based at the Old Lucketts Store to making appearances at Washington, D.C.-area farmer's markets.

Leesburg is getting a new bakery and cafe and it sounds like the most charming little place. Cowbell Kitchen will be opening on East Market Street, hopefully sometime next month.
Cowbell Kitchen has been around for since 2013. It originally was a food truck at the Old Lucketts Store north of Leesburg and more recently has been selling its creations at seven farmer’s markets in the greater D.C. area. Now, it’s ready to have its own brick-and-mortar location and the owners have chosen downtown...
